What we do
Tax & law
Tax law is not a form-filling exercise, it is a question of structure. Decide first and file later, and the options have usually already closed.
What this covers
Tax advice and returns
The ongoing work: we prepare your Austrian tax returns, check the assessments the tax office issues (Bescheid) and lodge an appeal while the deadline is still running. More importantly, we talk through decisions before they are made – legal form, an investment, taking on a partner, selling a business.
Cross-border and treaty questions
As soon as income, residence or a permanent establishment crosses a border, two tax systems and a double taxation treaty apply at once. We work out which country may tax what, how double taxation is relieved, and what has to be reported – for secondments as much as for foreign shareholdings, property or a second home.
Representation in tax audits
In an audit under the Austrian Federal Fiscal Code we act for you: from the notice through to the closing meeting, preparing the records and handling the correspondence. Where a voluntary disclosure (Selbstanzeige) is still possible and sensible we say so plainly – timing decides whether it works at all.
How it runs
First meeting
You describe the situation. We tell you whether we are the right firm, what needs doing and what to expect.
Records and authority
We register as your representative in FinanzOnline, the tax office’s portal. From then on assessments and queries come to us, and deadlines do not lapse because post sat unopened.
Ongoing
Returns, deadlines and checking assessments are ours. You get in touch when something comes up – we get in touch when something changes that affects you.
What to bring
To the first meeting
Your last tax assessment, your last annual accounts or income statement, and the articles of association if there are any. Nothing more is needed at that stage.
If an audit has been announced
The letter from the tax office and the period under review. Call us before you reply to it.
Your contact
For this area Florian Wolfgang Kalchmair is your first point of contact. Tax audits and international tax planning are his focus; he is also a court-certified expert witness.
Your contact stays the same throughout: you explain your situation once, not at every call. See the profile.
